Elite Sports Jiu Jitsu Rash Guards Review

Elite Sports Jiu Jitsu Rash Guards Review

5 min read

1. Disclaimer

I received the Jiu-Jitsu rash guard for review free of charge, but we will do so in an unbiased and honest manner. So let’s decide whether they are worth buying.

2. How Do Our Gear Reviews Work?

I don't do a full review of any Jiu-Jitsu gear until I have really used the thing. This means that I am going to spar and roll in it. I am going to do some weight training and circuit training in it, wash it a few times to see if it shrinks, and then give you a complete review.

3. Key Features of Elite Sports Rash Guards: Are They High Quality?

Before reading the review, you should know what makes a rash guard high-quality. The key features are given below:

  • A material thick enough to prevent pilling.

  • Fabric blend of polyester and spandex.

  • Does not shrink after washing.

  • Flatlock stitching.

  • Rubber waistband.

  • Ink is dyed into the fabric for printing, preventing cracking or peeling over the long term.

Now, let’s see whether Elite Sports rash guards have all the above features.

  • The rash guards are made of high-compression fabric. This compression improves your blood flow and muscle recovery, helping with your grappling.

  • It is a blend of 13% spandex and 87% polyester.

  • It is lightweight yet sturdy, with moisture-wicking technology to absorb sweat during grappling.

  • It features flatlock stitching to reduce wear and tear and anti-slip rubber waistbands.

You can check all these features on their website under rash guards. So you can see they meet all the requirements for a high-quality rash guard.

4. My First Impression After Receiving Elite Sports Rash Guards

My first thoughts after receiving elite sports rash guards are given below:

  • The rashgard has thicker ridges at the bottom. I believe that will help it stay in place while you're wearing it.

  • The logo looks like embroidered, which again is better and does not peel or crack over time.

  • This stuff is significantly more substantial (like thicker). I have dealt with bargain-style equipment before. That was always really thin and a very poor first impression.

  • The stuff is better than I expected, given the prices on their website.

  • So initially, it feels pretty good.

  • The only issue some might have at first glance is with the small white desiccant balls. These are used to absorb moisture and protect the product from contamination. Some people believe them to be very poisonous and harmful to even touch. But these are just myths, and you do not have to worry about them. For care, use gloves or a rough cloth to handle them, then dispose of them in the bin.

But that is only the first impression after receiving the rash guard package and unboxing it. Now, let’s check how well they can perform after wearing them.

5. My Thoughts After Wearing Elite Sports Rash Guards

My first thoughts after wearing elite sports rash guards are given below:

  • It feels pretty good to wear initially.

  • No weirdness in the armpits, which is always a concern.

  • Fits nice on the neck and there is no discomfort. Sometimes, if they fit too well in one area, they don't fit well enough in the other. But they feel really nice to wear.

  • I am wearing a small in both, and the shorts are actually a little snug. Maybe they run a little bit small, but they still fit me.

  • The drawstring is actually pretty interesting. It is big, thick, round, and of a higher quality than a shoelace. But some grapplers don't need the drawring so that depends on you.

  • We got a mouthguard pocket, which some people use and some don't.

  • Most grapplers do not want their bellies showing while wearing a rash guard, and Elite Sports has done a great job with this. Their rash guards cover your belly really well.

  • Their hem is much thicker than that of any other rash guard.

  • The bottom of the rash guard stays in place when you pull it down. You can feel it grabbing hold of you.

6. Review After Washing Rash Guards Many Times

  • I have passed the shorts and the rashguards through a ton of washes. They are holding up pretty well. They do not shrink in size because they are preshrunk.

  • I had no issues with threads or pilling.

7. Elite Sports Jiu Jitsu Rash Guards: Final Thoughts

  • The Elite Sports Jiu Jitsu rash guards are an awesome option, especially for beginners, thanks to their budget-friendly price.

  • If you are looking for an inexpensive option, you should buy them.

  • Or maybe you are just starting out and don't want to spend a ton of money on something that's essentially a hobby; their rash guards are a great choice.

  • Despite a much lower price, they are delivering great quality.

  • They fulfill all requirements of IBJJF.

FAQ

Porrada is a Portuguese term commonly used in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Brazilian culture to describe a tough, intense, and gritty style of training or fighting. The direct translation of porrada from Portuguese to English is "beating" or "brawl." It embodies the spirit of going all out, giving your maximum effort, and pushing through challenges. In BJJ, practicing porrada means training with high intensity and determination.

This website is a collection of resources curated by grapplers, for grapplers. Our goal is to provide you with all the information you need to succeed. Whether you want to learn about nutrition, training on the mats, lifting, or anything in between, we are here for you. We want to see you on the podium most of all, and we hope to help you do exactly that. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot us an email or DM us on any of our social profiles!

There are two main ways you can get started with training: 1) You can find a BJJ gym near you and do a trial day, or 2) you can create your own mini home gym and start training with friends. Option #2 is how our team at Porrada got started! We ordered 1-inch thick puzzle mats in a 10’x10’ square and began training using online resources. If you do start with the second option, we recommend eventually finding a gym down the road in your career. It will help you by allowing you to roll with more people and receive high-level instruction.

BJJ is quite similar to wrestling. Both start standing and use takedowns as a method to score points. Both use very similar mechanics overall. The main differences are that there are no pins (you can be on your back in Jiu-Jitsu), BJJ involves submissions, and the points system for each is very different. BJJ grants points for takedowns/sweeps, back control, mount, guard passes, and knee on belly. Wrestling grants points for takedowns, escapes, and back points (back exposure for freestyle).

BJJ is a very unique sport in many ways. There are so many incredible benefits to training Jiu-Jitsu. The biggest reasons we advocate for it are the mindset training and the added ability to defend yourself. In BJJ, you are forced to humble yourself over and over again, every single day. This sport is a great way to mature rapidly and generally become a better person (in our opinion). You will also have a better ability to defend yourself than 99% of the population—a pretty big bonus.

You’re never too old to start training! We see people on the mats of all ages and sizes. Large and small, old and young can, and should, train BJJ. If you are on the older side, it is perfectly acceptable to take it slow and learn at your own pace. You don’t always have to go full speed—don’t worry. There are typically also classes that separate people by goals. Certain classes are for those who want to compete, some are for general instruction, and some are specifically for self-defense teachings. There is a place for everyone on the mats.
